PART C – Building the Capabilities of your Organisation to Better Engage in Indigenous Australian Apprenticeships

About this Part

The purpose of this part of the Resource Kit is to provide a range of relevant information that AACs and RTOs around Australia have identified as essential to organisations seeking to increase their business performance in Indigenous Australian Apprenticeships. It is hoped that these resources will build organisational understanding and capability, as well as support local initiatives that AACs and RTOs believe will enhance the participation of Indigenous Australians in Australian Apprenticeships.

The information is presented so you can develop your understanding and capability in a variety of ways depending on your particular interests and needs.

There are six broad topics:

Topic C1 Making the Australian Apprenticeship system work for Indigenous Australians

Topic C2 Developing cross-cultural awareness and understanding

Topic C3 Engaging Indigenous communities and organisations through collaboration

Topic C4 Marketing Australian Apprenticeships to suit local needs

 Topic C5 Engaging Indigenous learners

Topic C6 Mentoring employers and Indigenous trainees to enhance retention

Each topic will help you to see:

WHY the information is important for enhancing Indigenous Australian Apprenticeships

WHAT are the issues and concepts that will help build capability in your organisation and its staff

HOW you can use the resources provided to make a difference in Indigenous Australian Apprenticeships.

The strategies may include:

º   accessing information to improve understanding of key issues
º   learning from others through adapting initiatives presented in case studies to suit your own situation. The case studies show how other providers have put innovative strategies into practice in urban, regional and remote localities. Some strategies will apply directly to your situation, while others will require change.
º   developing your staff by using the resources to support the delivery of structured learning programs, either internally or through the engagement of external facilitators.
